Hotel Management Short Courses

The Hotel sector continues to evolve with the times, keeping pace with technological developments. To stay competitive, hotels have progressively updated their systems and managerial practices.

The courses are designed for people currently employed, or wishing to be employed, within the hotel industry. They are also relevant to those involved with related sectors such as restaurants, cruise ships, convention centers, and with banquet and catering service providers.

HMM11: Hotel Management Basics
Topics covered include:
• Structure of the hotel industry
• Core hotel operations
• Organizing the workspace
• Food service provision
• Beverage management
• Hotel control systems
• Hotel employee and performance management
• Hotel legal, accounting and insurance issues
• Hotel accommodation operations
• Hotel building and facilities management
Duration: The course features twice weekly synchronous online sessions (2 hours per session), over a 6-week period (24 hours total course contact duration).

HMM12: Hotel Front-Desk Management
Topics covered:
• Guest services reception management
• Managing reservations and sales
• Coordinating client arrivals and departures
• Overseeing departmental operations
• Handling complaints
• Fielding guest enquiries
• Safety and security for the front desk
• Technological infrastructure for the front-desk
• Front office operations management

Duration: The course features twice weekly synchronous online sessions (2 hours per session), over a 6-week period (24 hours total course contact duration).

HMM13: Hotel Activities & Events Management
Topics covered:
• Managing hotel sales and client relations
• Strategic marketing issues for Hotel
• Marketing intelligence for the Hotel sector
• Enhancing brand reputation
• Worker/Client-centered services and activities
• Entrepreneurship and Intrapreneurship issues
• E-Strategies for hotel business growth
• Planning and managing hotel events

Duration: The course features twice weekly synchronous online sessions (2 hours per session), over a 6-week period (24 hours total course contact duration).

The courses are delivered via instructor-led online sessions. Emphasis is placed on the use of topical case studies and relevant simulations to impart practical knowledge and Hotel management expertise. Sessions will involve a mix of instructor presentations and case study work, with supporting classroom discussions.

Assessment of performance will be through delegate-completed portfolio of work. The final course outcome is a college-issued “Hotel Management” Course Certificate of Completion.
